Marabu's Medical Ink - Biocompatibility Testing
Medical Ink - Biocompatibility Testing
What is biocompatibility testing?
Biocompatibility testing refers to the testing that all medical devices that come into direct contact with consumers/patients must undergo. While it may sound highly technical and something that people may not pay much attention to in their daily lives, it is an essential testing process.
Biocompatibility refers to the ability of living tissues (humans, animals) to exhibit biological, physical, chemical, and other reactions to inert materials (medical products). Generally, it refers to the compatibility between materials and the host, or it can be understood as the degree of compatibility between the materials used in medical products and their contact or implantation within the body. It determines whether the medical product can cause harm to the human body and the extent of that harm.
Why is this testing necessary?
The nature of the materials and products themselves, including their shape, size, surface roughness, the presence of toxic low-molecular-weight substances from material aggregation or manufacturing processes, material processing contamination, degradation products within the body, etc., are all related to their biocompatibility. Short-term contact between materials and the body can lead to toxicity, irritation, teratogenic effects, and local inflammation in cells and the entire body. Long-term contact may have mutagenic, teratogenic, and carcinogenic effects. Contact with blood can cause abnormal clotting function and hemolysis, among other effects. Therefore, biocompatibility is an important criterion to consider and evaluate when using materials or products in the field of biomedical applications.
Implantable Medical Ink
In the case of medical devices such as implantable catheters that require markings such as scales on their surfaces, ink is used. The pad printing process, due to its energy-saving, environmentally friendly nature, and convenient operation, is widely applied in the medical industry.
Marabu is the leading manufacturer of pad printing inks in the medical industry. With its high precision printing results and exceptional safety, Marabu has gained the favor of numerous customers in the medical field, holding nearly half of the global market share for medical pad printing inks.
Biocompatibility Testing Disclaimer
For liquid-based printing inks, they are not directly used inside or outside the human body but are applied to the surfaces of items that may come into contact with the human body. Biocompatibility testing for Marabu inks is conducted after printing on items and allowing them to fully cure/dry. Therefore, conducting separate biocompatibility tests on liquid inks does not provide meaningful evidence.
As an ink manufacturer, Marabu cannot determine or control the manufacturing processes of printed items. Each item itself and its condition after processing have corresponding biocompatibility data. Thus, Marabu cannot provide comprehensive consistency statements. Marabu recommends that biocompatibility testing be conducted by the respective manufacturers for each finished printed product to meet the required standards.
Considering Marabu's extensive experience in the medical industry, we possess biocompatibility test reports for corresponding ink products on printed items. These reports can serve as references for our partners and customers in selecting ink products. For complete and clear report files, please contact us after placing your order, and we will provide them to you while ensuring the confidentiality of the information.
